Two television news helicopters collided Friday and crashed while covering a police pursuit in Phoenix, killing four people.

Both helicopters went down in a park in central Phoenix and caught fire.

Nike, Reebok Give Vick the Boot

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Nike suspended its lucrative contract with Michael Vick on Friday, while Reebok took the unprecedented step of stopping sales of his No. 7 jersey.

Facing protests from animal-rights groups, Nike announced it was suspending Vick’s endorsement deal without pay, as well as halting sales of Vick-related shoes and other products at its retail stores.

Andrew Speaker Released From Hospital.

DENVER (AP) — The tuberculosis patient who created an international health scare when he flew to Europe for his wedding was released from a hospital Thursday after successfully completing inpatient treatment, officials said.

Andrew Speaker, an Atlanta attorney who had a multidrug-resistant strain of TB, underwent surgery on July 17 to remove a diseased portion of his right lung.

Vick Pleads Not Guilty

Michael Vick pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal dogfighting accusations and was released conditionally until a November 26 trial.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback and three others entered their pleas in US District Court in Richmond to conspiracy charges involving competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Federal prosecutors allege the operation — known as Bad Newz Kennels — operated on Vick’s property in Surry County.

Vick Booed During Arrival at Federal Court

 

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Amid boos from spectators, NFL star Michael Vick arrived at a federal courthouse Thursday to answer accusations that he was involved in a brutal dogfighting operation.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback was to appear at a bond hearing and enter a plea on dogfighting conspiracy charges. He said nothing as he walked into the courthouse, which was lined by spectators who began gathering at dawn.

16 Indicted in Alleged Mafia Drug Ring

ATLANTA (AP) — Federal authorities in Atlanta said 16 people have been indicted in an alleged drug ring run by the Black Mafia Family.

Officials said the organization came to Atlanta several years ago seeking legitimacy by infiltrating the hip-hop industry.

Falcons’ Dunn to Miss 3 – 4 Weeks.

Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn will miss the next three to four weeks after back surgery on July 21, according to team officials.

Dunn, entering his 11th NFL season, rushed for 1,140 yards on 286 carries and scored four touchdowns en route to posting his fifth career 1,000-yard rushing season last year.

All Eyes On Richmond For Vick.

On Thursday, all eyes will be on Richmond, Va., as Falcons quarterback Michael Vick appears in federal court.

Vick and three co-defendants are facing federal charges involving a dogfighting operation. They are scheduled for a mid-afternoon hearing. At 3:30, Vick will answer the charges at a bond hearing, and at 4 p.m., is scheduled to arraigned.

Police said they are looking for two men who have been robbing hotels along Atlanta area interstates, pointing guns at clerks and stealing money.
