Andrew Speaker Released From Hospital.

DENVER (AP) — The tuberculosis patient who created an international health scare when he flew to Europe for his wedding was released from a hospital Thursday after successfully completing inpatient treatment, officials said.

Andrew Speaker, an Atlanta attorney who had a multidrug-resistant strain of TB, underwent surgery on July 17 to remove a diseased portion of his right lung. Continue reading

Vick Pleads Not Guilty

Michael Vick pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal dogfighting accusations and was released conditionally until a November 26 trial.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback and three others entered their pleas in US District Court in Richmond to conspiracy charges involving competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Federal prosecutors allege the operation — known as Bad Newz Kennels — operated on Vick’s property in Surry County. Continue reading

Vick Booed During Arrival at Federal Court

 

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Amid boos from spectators, NFL star Michael Vick arrived at a federal courthouse Thursday to answer accusations that he was involved in a brutal dogfighting operation.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback was to appear at a bond hearing and enter a plea on dogfighting conspiracy charges. He said nothing as he walked into the courthouse, which was lined by spectators who began gathering at dawn. Continue reading

All Eyes On Richmond For Vick.

On Thursday, all eyes will be on Richmond, Va., as Falcons quarterback Michael Vick appears in federal court.

Vick and three co-defendants are facing federal charges involving a dogfighting operation. They are scheduled for a mid-afternoon hearing. At 3:30, Vick will answer the charges at a bond hearing, and at 4 p.m., is scheduled to arraigned. Continue reading

West Nile Virus Found in Fulton Co.

The state health department announced Tuesday that they have discovered the West Nile virus in mosquitoes that were caught for testing in Fulton County.

There has not been a lot attention given to the West Nile virus since it first appeared in 1999 and roared to the front of the public’s consciousness. In recent years, the virus has moved west, and its impact in Georgia has lessened. Continue reading
